Antigone at the Barbican

antigone barbican

Last weekend, I went to see Antigone by Sophokles at the Barbican in a direction by Ivo van Hove. The later is directing as well “A View From The Bridge” which is currently a great success in London and will be broadcasted in cinemas by National Theatre Live (more info here). But let’s come back to Antigone 🙂 One of my reasons to go to see this play was that the frenchie Juliette Binoche is staring as the main actress.
I must admit that not everyone likes greek tragedies as they are not always easy to embrace. But here, the direction and the actors are really rejuvenating this play with contemporary costumes, an uncluttered set and an intense but subtle performance from the cast. I especially enjoyed the performance of the main actor Patrick O’Kane who is playing Kreon and really brings his character to life in a very modern way. If you have the opportunity, I therefore recommend you to go see this play which is programmed until the 28th of March! For more information, here is the link to the Barbican website.
