The Fjord and Les Escoumins – Canada Part 3

Today, I am taking you back to Canada again for the third post on our trip. We will be going on the road along the fjord and discovering Les Escoumins. As a bonus in this post, I will be also sharing with you several nice places to eat as well as a look.

What we found while visiting all these really nice places is that there was not that many people. It is probably because we were a bit too early in the season which was actually great as it didn’t feel touristy at all!

BAIE-ÉTERNITÉ
There are several nice spots to stop by on the road starting with the Saguenay Fjord National Park in the Baie-Eternité area. We did a nice walk along the baie and wandered around in the forest as well where we spotted all sorts of vegetation as well squirrels 🙂

When I travel, I like wearing confortable clothes, so I went for my leather like coated jeans, a Petit Bateau cotton top and a wool jumper I have made myself using a knitting kit from Wool and the Gang (that is my first ever knitted jumper :)). I actually recommend you Wool and the Gang knitting kits which are easy to follow, plus they have Youtube videos to explain every technic. I was also wearing some beautiful ginkgo earrings from Lucie Saint Leu and a Alfie Douglas mini bucket bag which is super convenient!

ANSE-SAINT-JEAN
We then drove to Anse-Saint-Jean and, our walk having whet our appetite, we stopped there for a lunch. We randomly picked Le Café du Quai, that looked like a nice little coffee shop facing the bay. Actually, they are serving crepes and galettes and I was really pleasantly surprised by them! Being a Breton, I am usually quite picky, but I must say that these were very tasty 🙂 We went for the Biquette for myself (goat cheese, pear and maple sirop which I asked instead of the honey) and the Terroir for Mister (venison and blueberry sausage, onion confit and sauerkraut) for the Canadian touch.

ANSE DU PETIT SAGUENAY
A couple of kilometres further, we stopped at l’Anse du Petit Saguenay for a short but vivifying walk along the dock. It was quite cold and windy even though the sun was sunny but worth it as it is a really beautiful little cove.

BAIE SAINTE-CATHERINE
Arriving at Baie-Sainte-Catherine to take the ferry to cross the river, we made a halt at the Pointe-Noire Interpretation and Observation Centrewhich was already closed but we were still able to wander around the wooden paths and even got to see some belugas from afar 🙂

LES ESCOUMINS
After we crossed over to Tadoussac, we headed straight North to Les Escoumins as I had heard it was a great spot to observe sea-life. We stayed in a great guest house, Chez Lucie, from which front garden you can see the sea 🙂 Our hostess was really nice and the breakfast was hearty! She also recommended us a great place to eat for dinner: La Poissonnerie Les Escoumins, which is serving fresh fish and seafood. I had a grilled lobster that I even got to chose from the fish shop aquarium (that is how fresh it was :)) and it was simply delicious! We wanted to do sea kayaking the next morning to get a chance to get close to some belugas and whales (if we were lucky). However, as the peak season for whales is in the summer our chances were very slim.  When we woke up the next morning, it was raining heavily… How unlucky… We then had to drive to our next destination with a pinch in the heart not having been able to experience that.
